Actually, there was one where he was on trial and convicted. The problem was, he was set up by others and Batman pledged to find the ones responsible:
“He is guilty of SO MANY CRIMES.”
Batman: “Yes…but he’s not guilty of THIS one.”
He did get to zing Joker in the end. Visited him in prison before they let him out (he was seconds away from the electric chair) and reminded him that since he (Batman) saved the Joker’s life…
“All you will ever accomplish from now on…YOU OWE TO ME.”
I love the suits over their costumes, nice touch.

Since… always? You didn’t think they were just thrown in jail, did you? That would be highly illegal. And unethical.
Otherwise yes but supervillains? I mean, give the Joker a trial and he’s out faster than if you took him straight to Arkham…
