I was initially happy… then I checked the series on Prime Video. I’d have to pay €4 extra per month to access the MGM library, and that only includes the first 5 seasons of SG-1 and 3 seasons of ATL. Such bullshit.
They had several teams they sent off world, plus the upkeep of the base, the power required for the gate, support staff for the base and gate, equipment costs, scientists studying any alien tech they brought back. And that is just what I can think of off the top of my head. It would be expensive to run such an operation, more so to keep it hush hush.
They also got money from the tech they brought back, so it evened out at least a little. One episode had that one scientist complain that he spent more time making his plasma cannon malfunction at the drop of a hat for “realism” than he did making the thing in the first place.
just watched an episode about it last night, coincidentally. in season 1 their budget is $7Billion per year (some Senator comes and threatens to shut them down and specifically mentions it). or about 1% of current US military budget. Probably higher in later seasons and after the Atlantis spinoff, though
The imposter would probably claim that they are analogous due to slight differences in the ways their followers worship them.
Something similar to this actually happened in an old DC storyline, where Shazam the wizard got his “H” from Heracles because Hercules was off being busy someplace.
I mean, I can’t really think of a BETTER use of a military budget than fighting ‘narcissistic aliens who hate us and probably want to conquer us’. That’s exactly the kind of thing you want a military for.
Yeah!! Celebrating the acquisition of MGM by Amazon streaming and hoping for a revival of the series too?
Brad Wright has written at least one new Stargate script. https://www.gateworld.net/news/2021/03/next-stargate-project-might-have-daniel-jackson/ So you know he’s trying to launch a new series.

And they wonder why piracy is flourishing.
Yeah, when has anyone ever not been happy when a film or TV show they’ve been wishing would come back for years finally comes back.
I have to wonder how large a portion of the budget it would really be given that they’re only sending small teams.
Maybe it’s more about equipment costs to keep alien portal technology running?

You forgot to send atomic bombs when such immortal aliens pretending to be gods present such a big trouble to try other options…

Don’t forget the warships they built

Not so immortal, as some will attest.
So now Stargate is a part of the Shitropolis-verse? I’ll allow it.
This is one of those parallel worlds, seen through the mirror device that Jackson found.
In this world, it seems Generally Hamming-it-up only gets a 2 star rating.
Indeed.
If every god not currently worshiped today is currently active as a superhero how will they react to the aliens pretending to be them.

You mean that one where the gods of different panteons fight each other, including a confrontation between Flash and Mercury?
Could well be. It was nearly 30 years ago when I read it!
That makes sense in a world with at least four versions of Death and Satan.

Honestly, if that’s what the US military budget was spent on, the populace would probably be very happy about it.
i’d rather pay for a stargate than for planes that will only ever be flown once – straight to the junkyard
