Remember the super-hero on the bus? He had the whole combo-platter of super-powers but his weakness was space rocks which included the Earth since it’s technically a rock floating in space. So as far as the comic goes they are indeed in space.
It would be interesting to have a super-being who had enormous powers in near-zero gravity, but didn’t know it until they became an astronaut/got abducted/what have you, because their powers were reduced to basically nothing in Earth-normal gravity.
Sort of like Lila Cheney in Marvel comics, who is a mutant with vast teleportation powers that have a minimum teleport distance that’s measurable in light-years. She can only reliably teleport to places she’s either been to or has detailed information on, so she never really knew she had powers until she got abducted and taken into space.
I created a thread about people like that on a Marvel Super-heroes RPG group, people that had powers but didn’t know it because the powers weren’t obvious because they weren’t under the right conditions to reveal them. Like someone that got super-powers from a particular material but never coming into contact with it so they never activate their powers. Kind of like Kryptonians, they’re basically humans on their planet and only have their powers activated off-world when exposed to a yellow sun (outside of the original who came fully packaged and it was Earth’s much weaker gravity and their more evolved nature that gave Kal-L his powers).
Exactly, to ask why you are in space is to ask why you exist. It’s sloppy terminology.
Better to ask “why are you off world”. It’s contextual, but if an earthling is asking an earthling, the ‘world’ in question means earth, so it’s still makes more sense. Or you could just ask, “why are you off earth” or just “why are you on this planet?”
Actually a pretty nice take on cosmic threats, there’s bound to be more than a single faction that tries to take it out and not everyone gets in on the action.
why different kinds of sci-fi don’t blend well. It is really difficult to have a humans in space meeting aliens sci-fi adventure series that also has super powers that doesn’t get hijacked by said super powers. Also trying to blend things like vampires, supernatural elements, hell, demons, kaiju, ect… and no I don’t feel that DC or Marvel has blended it well as they tend to act like the other elements don’t exist until they show up..or have a cross-over event. Grrl power has blended it well so far but the many different elements has me on edge on story overload.
I imagine his response to being introduced to the enemy would’ve gone along the lines of:
“Why the hell are they call ‘The Gold’? I mean, they’re not even yellow!”
Actually, after you said that, I am afraid to even think if they finished the race that were going to fight on Earth’s side, giving the Gaw’Ul the advantage…
P3X-666? Lol. Also, great to see the Power Group again! I love the new stories, but I’ve been missing people like Asstronomous, Flying Fox Man, the Desperate Houswitch and of course Mary Sue. (She and LP are still an item, right?)
There really should have been better coordination between off world groups.
But nooo, we can’t let those superhero groups know about our military operations, because it’s so top secret!
This always bugs me. THEY ARE NOT “IN SPACE”! They are on a planet! Space is the stuff BETWEEN planets!
they consider “in space” anything that’s not “on earth”
Space is the whole that the Universe keeps all it’s stuff in, or something like that said buy some space-stronomer or something?
Anthropocentrism at its finest

Technically, everywhere in the universe is “in space”, but everything beyond the Earth’s atmosphere is in “outer space.”
So, Asstronomous should asked why the Stellar Gate team were in “outer space.”
As Rick once said “Literally everything is in space!”

It’s Asstronomus. He’s not exactly the brightest bulb around.
I like this in-continuity explanation.

I wonder if they at least will offer the Power Group a ride home for doing their job.
In no way I’m going to believe Asstronormus knowing the right name of his enemy, like he cared enough…
I imagine his response to being introduced to the enemy would’ve gone along the lines of:

I’d be worried if he’d managed to say it himself, but he’s just sort of going with what the military guy said.
Actually, after you said that, I am afraid to even think if they finished the race that were going to fight on Earth’s side, giving the Gaw’Ul the advantage…

Oh, I forgot Cat-a-pult and Distracterella, what’s been happening to them?
Stay tuned for the answers to these, and other, mindboggling questions in Chapter 1073 (give or take 10)!
At least their Janet Fraiser will survive.
