To be fair, some designs of can openers are designed to cut into the lid inside the top rim, while others are designed to cut into the can wall just below it, which can be confusing to someone initially expecting it to work the other way.

Everyone has to learn sometime. If you didn’t learn growing up, either at home or at school, then adult learning is the next best choice.
