thankfully, i do not think breast milk counts as “cooking”
and merely handling food does not start fires, or she would be long dead of anorexia by now
however, i do hope her big melons can produce enough breast milk, because preparing a baby formula definitively counts as cooking, she would be unable to prepare a baby bottle for her kid
I think you may have meant “dead of starvation”. Anorexia is a body dysmorphia disorder which causes the sufferer to perceive their body as not being ‘thin’ enough, causing them to deliberately induce caloric deficit (either by refusing to eat or by deliberately over-exercising). The likely end result of untreated anorexia is death by starvation or one of a number of deficiency-related health problems (heart attack due to potassium deficit, scurvy, rickets, hyoglycemic coma, organ failure, etc.).
Since she’s a lesbian, it’s highly unlikely that she would get pregnant and neither she nor her girlfriend have ever expressed the desire to have children. Small steps first. Let’s just get them through this cooking class without immolating the place, okay?
You are aware that “sexual orientation” and “a desire to have offspring” are not necessarily linked, right?
And that there are things like IVF and sperm donation, that allow people to have children without even physically interacting.
Was she established as lesbian? I don’t remember. Her backstory makes it seem unlikely though, going after hetero partners while in denial is one thing, half the football team quite another. Head canon says bisexual at least.
I’m starting to wonder if Buckaress might not have some sort of pyrokinetic power she’s unaware of, that she’s subconsciously using to target the object of her anxiety. She’s scared of how bad a cook she thinks she is, so her power incinerates the food she’s about to cook in an effort to remove the perceived source of the stress.
The other possibility is that she’s been cursed by a certain desperate housewitch to burn anything she tries to prepare, since it started right around the time Josie started learning magic (#239, #241, #265).
Or it could just be from living in Shitropolis. :D
conditional automatic pyrokinesis. Automatic versions of -kinetic, psionic, and energy manipulation powers are most often linked to something psychological, needing lessons and therapy to help understand and focus their related emotional responses to bring it under control or use it.
That was in the 70s, when psychoanalisis was still fashionable and problems had complex origins. Now it’s probably just “your fault, solve it yourself on your own”.
By the time this is over, she’ll either burn the whole place down, or learn to cook eggs with just the power of her mind. I wonder which.
A weird thought just occurred to me: If Buckeress got pregnant, would her own breast milk catch fire?
Luckily for the baby she doesn’t appear with any intention to do so. At least not until she learns to cook.

Hopefully in that scenario they’ll have the foresight to have Defendress carry the baby, would be a less substantial meal for it though.
God that first panel with the squished boobs. Thank you so much.

Her pyrokinetic ability is tied to her impossibly good figure. She’s always burning (kilo)calories, y’see…

Oh the smell! Only worse smells are rotting bodies and burning bones.
that’s because she’s too hot
that’s her superpower
I’ve got it! Teach Buckaress how to make gazpacho!
Swipe cut to gazpacho on fire.
Or vicchyssoise. Bruschetta might be an option or just a plain old ham and cheese sandwich.
Nope, sandwiches count.
In one strip, Alex got Bucky a sandwich from a shop and Bucky removed the pickles. The sandwich burst into flame.
So even a cold soup like gazpacho would count as “cooking”.
I still think, that’s her superpower, but maybe she should just try cooking FlambĂ© – style?
This could have been funnier if they had started with how to boil water, and the water was in flames. With the stove turned off.
Pretty sure she’s actually done that before.
Yep, strip #241. I think the stove was on, though.
