My “out” on this particular strip is that I know absolutly nothing about either the American high school experience or women.

To help you out with women…
Less attractive on the outside, usually more attractive on the inside. ;)
Not always true. Sometimes their unattractiveness has left them bitter and leading them to treat other people like shit to make themselves feel briefly superior. I think those are the rarity though.
Here’s the hypothesis my own life experience from the people I’ve met has led me to form. I broadened the spectrum a bit from Bill’s notion:
Individuals with some sort of unavoidable social impediment (ugly, fat, short, non-hertro orientation or other-gendered, etc) Basically just anyone who might figure out at a young age that they won’t be coasting through life on their looks… quite often these people develop better personalities as a way of coping with whatever social “handicap”.
They tell good jokes and stories, they listen well, they don’t take offense at small, non-deliberate slights, they forgive easily, and are loyal to their friends and family even when the latter demonstrate they can’t be the greatest people all day, every day.
That’s the stuff we people repeat because we want it to be true. But it’s not. A hot girl can have an amazing personality and an ugly girl can be a beach and there are no rules about that.
Those scoops of ice cream are so tiny!
@wwlaos: Well, I guess GG prefers a mixed basket over just one big lump.
Well, Buckarette was the one being “recruited” by the villains originally.
@Bill Murphy,
You said “usually”, but I’ve known plenty of beautiful women who were decent people. Gorgeous women who were good people even.
@Tue,
Buckaress couldn’t figure out who Distracterella is because Buck had stolen so many boyfriends.
@Bill Murphy
A good number of less attractive women possess great hate for the world though.
There are lots of good and bad regardless of attractiveness though. Obviously.
You also apparently don’t know what a bag strap does to a boob, either, ahaha I kid I kid.
“Oh no” upon seeing best friend? Does not compute
@danelsan,
She doesn’t want to have to explain to her friend what she’s doing out in public with a superheroine.
@danelsan,
Or a matter of “best friend in high school, when i was stupid, shallow and nasty – what was i thinking?!”
Seconded. I’m sure there are old friends of yours that you later realized what horrible people they were afterwards. Heck, maybe even as you were friends again
@BillMurphy: Bullshit.
The two are independent variables.
Yet she says, completely nonchalantly “no, we were best friends, why?”
By her words and facial expression, I can see no condemnation of Josie on Buckaress“ part.
She is clearly OK with her best friend in high school being a huge bitch. Which is the reason IĀ“m confused by her initial “Oh no!” reaction
@danelsan
Good point – but then she WAS also a shallow and nasty person back then, remember all the boyfriend stealing?
@Those confused about “Oh no!”: Maybe sarcasm in the last panel?
But I’d guess Eva would have been friends with such a girl, so idk.
