A long time ago, had that phone conversation with my great-grandmother. She did point out my brother had kids but, at the least, she didn’t ask what team I was on…
My mom asked me about grandkids once. I told her, she’s got two other sons who can give her some. It’s not like we signed a contract that every kid would give her grandkids.
It probably didn’t help that I told her that children are the only socially-acceptable form of STD in the world.
For a long time, I just thought she was just succumbing to age, in multiple aspects, but, having the perspective of time, it struck me: Nanna just had a different perspective on life, in multiple aspects.
I realized she came up, 80 plus years before in an agrarian society so, a 15 year old with 2 kids was probably no big deal to her and I imagined that conversation from her POV.
She must have seen our ‘just say no,’ waiting ’til after we graduate, not goin’ to work on the farm Generation-X as such softies…
well your avatar is of ‘Tenchi’ the guy who’s pressured by if not his dad then his granddad to decide which crazy girl to settle for!
On my side my grandma is perfectly fine with me not seeking a relationship, she understands how I prefer my own space and time. On the other hand I’ve known people who had very pushy parents etc.
Neither Nobuyuki nor Katsuhito is pressuring Tenchi to choose ONE. Nor are Ryoko and Ayeka.
-Nobuyuki is worried he’s too shy.
-Katsuhito sees his being of age convenient during Ayeka’s arrival.
-Katsuhito, Ryoko, Washu, Ayeka and Sasami are all from a polyamorous society where >>Ayeka was betrothed to “Yosho”<>first.<<
Those women are actually all fighting over Tenchi's V-card.
I don’t know. I’m the sort that actually collected discs.
Some discs do seem to be available through N.
First Series: Tenchi Muyo! (Comedy Soap Opera)
then, Tenchi Muyo! Ryo Ohki (Fan servicely back story explains Washu)
Others
then, GXP (ultra-cheesy spin off explains Yosho’s family on Earth, ending hints at what happens if R and A ever stop fighting. I liked Seto’s action theme.)
Apologies for butting in, but Tenchi Muyo is one of those series where you kind of need a flowchart:
There’s technically three(!) different animated universes here, not getting into a spin-off:
Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki: Six episode OVA. Had two follow up OVAs and a movie (somewhere between OVA 2 and 3 but it’s pretty self-contained). The same universe also has Tenchi Muyo! GXP – a TV series about Tenchi’s classmate Seina Yamada, the unluckiest being in the universe. GXP is also before the third OVA.
Secondly there’s the also popular Tenchi Universe! – which begins with the TV series and has a, IMHO, rather good movie, Tenchi Muyo in Love. Universe is slightly more slapstick than the OVA-based universe.
The third animated universe is Tenchi in Tokyo. This is vaguely connected to the first TV series (Tenchi Universe) and was kind of panned. From what little I’ve seen everyone is wildly out of character and it’s played for laughs. It seemed to throw out the romantic comedy bit and go straight into slapstick.
There’s also a manga series (kind of unrelated), novels, two Pretty Sammy spinoffs and… what the heck, Ai Tenchi Muyo! ? Okay, so another spinoff.
I partly blame nostalgia but also it was tongue in cheek anyway.
@Vincent: I’m surprised Tenchi series still has a following, or a solid fanbase still (at its peak it had ayeka.org the TMFFA group etc) I would say without question Universe was brilliant in its own right, it managed to give a level of culture of jurai that wasn’t too over the top to its muyo counterpart. Had kiyone and Nagi. with some neat lines. (ryoko’s retort on jurai ‘neverlasting’) comedy and drama.
OVA 1 and 2 were also fun to watch, but I felt the OVA was a bit meh admist season 2 and even more so when OVA 3 came. I hated ova 3 it was just rehased plot and formula to an even worse extent.
I know Tokyo isn’t popular to some but it has better character development, it did show tenchi trying to move on in an relationship but the exaggerated anime expressions were ‘ugh’ Though ‘money money money’ is one of my favourite anime episodes due to the slice of life factor. On a whole Tokyo seemed more targeted at the home fanbase then the international one
The movies were decent and Ai Tenchi Muyo (a semi sequel to universe that was to celebrate the franchise’s anniversary) was imo more watchable then ova3.
It’s lame when women are accused of being lesbian if they’re not with a guy. *Surely* it must be a matter of sexual preference, instead of a lack of qualified suitors in their scope.
Lesbians are lesbians because they’re only attracted to women, not just because they’re not dating a guy right now.
I haven’t been in a relationship for a while now and nobody accuses me of only liking guys.
Or, for that matter, simply being the kind of person who requires a lot of private space and therefore isn’t interested in a relationship, like me. My mother has long since given up on ever being a grandmother.
In the beginning of the comic, Good Girl was shown to be so purely innocent that even Buckaress was taken aback by how casually she’d unwittingly would do fan-service shots. It was to the point that GG almost didn’t seem to register any shame about her body, at least in the presence of another woman. That disqualifies the “playing for the other team” thing with GG but makes you wonder if she’s even capable of being in the game.
Even Bad GG would probably just dom on people and tie them up and beat the crap out of them. And then get it wrong because she didn’t get their consent, doesn’t establish a safe word, and wouldn’t comfort them afterward.
Or rather, she’d get it right because she’s Bad GG and she’s got you at her mercy and are you really going to argue with her right now?
I’m just glad she got out of the freeze unharmed by the horned baby. However, that baby was reaching for the halo and is now eyeing her cross. So she’s not out of the woods yet.
Is this the first time we’ve seen GG acting in an non naïve fashion, she looks quite level headed in this, overall a nice slice of life strip is this one.
OK if GG was “With Child” who do you thing BGG would get her in to “trouble” with? would it be with some less than reasonable guy to stick it to GG, dose BGG have a guy she is in to and pick him for unprotected shenanigans or just get drunk and end up in bed with some random dude?

You should re-watch that show, first series.

Any suggestions on where to watch the original series? I tried watching a newer version on Netflix and it was so freaking awful…

Still, it’s pretty entertaining.

No Mr. Dork this week either? Darn. Still nice to see GG getting some character development though.
Mom thinks GG is on a all girls team i guess.

Is this the same Good Girl that asked Eva if she was a lesbanim[sic]?
She must’ve thought she remembered hearing the word one time while she and Distracterella were tearing up their favorite bar.
Wait, is that what it was about?
I thought they were talking about family Super teams, like the Fantastic Four…
Is it me, or does GG look a bit like Josie in this strip?
Kids can do that to you.
Being siblings helps alot.

It’s funny because she didn’t understand Eva/Buckaress being bisexual.
Is this the first time we’ve seen GG acting in an non naïve fashion, she looks quite level headed in this, overall a nice slice of life strip is this one.
I’m more surprised at seeing GG with an annoyed look in her face, since I don’t remember her ever being without a smile (Unless she’s Bad GG).
That baby looks like it has horns, does that foreshadow that it will end up becoming evil?
OK if GG was “With Child” who do you thing BGG would get her in to “trouble” with? would it be with some less than reasonable guy to stick it to GG, dose BGG have a guy she is in to and pick him for unprotected shenanigans or just get drunk and end up in bed with some random dude?
