So… Literal Clipped Wing Angel form?
I’m expecting other demonic physical-attributes to manifest in the next few pages. I’m almost afraid to see what uses Bad Good Girl will find for the new power.
… afraid and very eager.
Why does everyone seem to think BGG is evil? I see her as the normally suppressed side of GG, who is released when the halo loses power.
Basically, not bad, just very annoyed at constantly being forced to act ‘nice’, and has a tendency to act out when she has the chance. It’s possible that if BGG was allowed out more, she would be more mellow.
I wouldn’t say that she’s evil, either. Of course neither would I say the same about Lucifer. Based upon his actions in Job, I think Yahweh is in the wrong.
So, demonic isn’t necessarily as evil as medieval portrayals. It would just be the symbolic flip-side of multiple-personality girl’s new powers and appearance.
Demonic is evil in my book.
Depends upon the religion. In Islam, the equivalent to demons are jinn. Jinn are often malicious, in their mythology, possessing people (mental disorders) and causing environmental disasters and such. They’re often helpful too, though. Apparently they have a tendency to maliciousness, but in a more playful way than demons in Christian mythology. Jinn are probably more akin to astral spirits, or whatever you want to call them, in new-age mystical mythology, being more like people, just averaging a bit towards the negative side of things.
Christian mythology is one of the few sets of mythology with such a rigid black-and-white view of things, in which either something is absolutely all for their god, or it’s absolutely under the influence of demons or Satan. Fundamentalists in particular lean more towards this sort of thinking, but you see some of it in moderates, too.
Um, no demons and devils in Islam are called shayātīn and they are thoroughly evil and ruled by Iblis (Satan). Jinn is a very broad category, and demons are a subset of that. All demons are Jinn, but not all Jinns are demons.
Only those Jinn that were enslaved by Soloman are ever helpful, and then only against their wills, as they are slaves.
Hmm, my source says otherwise about the only helpful Jinn being Solomon’s, but my source is an ex-Muslim turned fundamentalist Christian. So, he might not be the most reliable source. You could say that he has an ever-so-slight motivation for distortion of his previous religion.
You’re probably right about the groupings, KNO3. I remember a lot of details, but some of the ones I’ve forgotten could be the ones that differentiate things into finer detail.
I mostly remember that the whole angels-and-demons thing is a lot more complex in Islamic mythology. Drawing parallels can be a bit rough, particularly when I’m going off of memory. Did you pull this stuff up from a particular source that I could go check out for a refresher?
Okay. Start with this:
Cool, thanks. I figured Wikipedia, but it’s always good to get a little specific direction, when someone else has already found a good article.
Or it’s an overdone form of “Suppressed rage at the world eyes”
At least half the anime in the world show that glowing red eyes isn’t demonic, it’s the person entering all encompassing anger
Christianity is usually portrayed pretty strangely in Anime, too. A lot of Japanese people are kind of creeped out by it, regarding it as a death cult or something along those lines. You can see it borrowed for its theming, in some horror series and movies.
Damn, sorry. Forgot to log into Gravatar on this computer, before commenting. That last one was me.
Okay. Demonic is evil or malicious. Got it.
Could be, at any rate. Context is everything. I’m mostly being pedantic because … well, I’m me, and it’s what I do.
They also technically don’t have a hell. Look at the anime titled Hellgirl. Both the people who are taken by revenge and the souls who pass normally, take the exact same path.
From what little I can understand of it. The souls taken revenge on and the ones taking revenge, are stuck in a reincarnation loop. While the rest get to go on to peace.
“take the exact same path” as the normal souls
Yeah, I’ve caught little fragments, here and there, through anime. I don’t really know much in the way of detail, when it comes to Shinto beliefs. For that matter, there isn’t really a formal set of theological texts, as there are in the Abrahamic religions, is there? I barely know the basics of Zen Buddhism, because one of my previous roommates thought he was a ninja. Odd dude.
What was really freaking funny was that he used to love watching/listening along to some call-in atheist/skeptic podcasts and shows that I follow, and he’d be laughing along while the hosts of the shows dealt with fundamentalist Christian callers and stuff like that. Then, in one show, there were two Buddhists who called in, trying to present the Buddhist/mystical beliefs of theirs, as if a bunch of skeptics would accept them at face value. My roommate got reeeeeaaaallly quiet, when the hosts unpacked the arguments that the Buddhists were presenting.
Lots of people don’t treat their own position with the same skepticism that they apply to everyone else’s.
Isn’t there a lot of bleed-through between Buddhist and Shinto philosophy? I’ve seen a lot of crossover in the stuff I’ve been exposed to, but I haven’t had anything formal, talking at length to anyone who held the beliefs … excepting my roommate, who doesn’t really count, since he mostly seemed to be grabbing anything that he thought seemed cool. I don’t trust his perspective for anything beyond the basics.
Shintoists have always had trouble wraping their minds around the concept of Resurection, the ultimate goal of orthodox Christianity, but they do have a long mythology involving numerous types of undeath, and so the two are misconstrued.
Buddhists also have some major issues in that department, if I’m remembering it correctly. Buddhists (or at least the most stereotypical sects) believe in constant reincarnation, until you reach a sufficient level of enlightenment that you escape the wheel and cease to exist.
It’s sort of funny how religions can vary not just in their concepts of the methods of attaining their goals, but also have freaking utterly opposite goals. I would expect at least some consistency in that, because of our shared, basic-human psychology, but apparently not.
I’m sure punching blind people, starting bar fights, and manipulatively lying to people qualify as bad. Evil, even.
Yay, BGG is one of my favourite characters.
Bad Gooder Girl is the best Gooder Girl. d==<_<
Hmm, with her ahlo turning anny villen good being the strongest thing this team had going fore it, this seams more like a power down. Proberbly better fore her though to be more able to act normal, BBG may get a more balenced person now.
She’ll probably still be able to throw the halo and have the old effect. It’s just this new angelic form that drains the hell out of the Gloria in no time … which could actually be a powerful new double-tap, if Bad good girl cooperates. Good Girl goes angelic-form and kicks ass, and when her Gloria burns out, Bad Good Girl pops out with possibly some new powers.
Or just fight dirty. Or use improvised weapons.
True, even that helps. It just isn’t an increase in her potential, to go along with Good Girl’s level-up. i’m hoping for something along those lines.
Now mash tiddies….FIGHT!
I second the motion.
Sadly, it probably won’t happen. Bad Good Girl and Eva are sometimes drinking buddies. Most of Bad Good Girl’s intra-team abuse seems to be aimed at Laser Pony.
yay i like evil GG and now get to see if she goes demon with out the good stuff
Probably not unless she makes a deal with evil.
Why’s that? It isn’t like Good Girl made a deal with good. For that matter, she kind of had her goodness forced upon her by outside forces.
Ah, okay. Waiting for evil to be forced upon her by outside forces.
At the very least, she’ll get an awesome costume out of the deal. She might sell out for that.
Not to be that guy, but third panel last bubble should be don’t, because the word ‘avatars’ is plural.
Hey, it always has to be someone. It would have been me, if you hadn’t said it.
Thanks. English is not my first langage, and it took me a while to figure out why that last panel was bothering me.
So this works BGG’s benefit then.
I’m thinking they get to use AGG’s limit break once then, have to duck whatever EAGG’s (Evil Angelic Good Girl) recovery spell is.
Christ, their chests – especially Buckaress’ – are ridiculously huge, especially given what the remainder of the bodies are like.
Buckaress has always had pronounced boobs. That was one of the early jokes about her. They just seem to be turning the art style a bit in the direction of super-hero comic proportions, with more pinched waists on the women. I dunno.
Yeah, as I implied in the previous comment section, they are definitely turning things up a notch…
Which I simultaneously like (ifyaknowwhatimean) and dislike.
“Which I simultaneously like (ifyaknowwhatimean) and dislike.”
Somewhat, yeah. I like (ifyaknowwhatImean) the sort of figure more along the lines of Distractarella’s form on page 100, as I mentioned below, but there’s an artistic merit to this new style.
While unrealistic, the deep, exaggerated curves are pleasing in an artistic way … although I could deal with smaller boobs on them, even so. I lean more towards C’s … D’s tops, on a girl with their small frames. I don’t understand the proclivity that lots of men have in favor of out-of-proportion breasts on women.
To specific Narf. Far to specific.
Though still amusing, oddly enough.
I’m an open book. If you don’t wanna know, don’t bring up the subject. :-P
Want to know about my preferences in pornography? :-D
I’m always impressed how Bad Girl immediately comes with magical red lipstick outta nowhere. Even more than the Wings of Good Girl Angel Avata status. XD
Goes along with the red eyes and the inverted red cross, I suppose.
Love the comic. Have to say that I prefer the older artwork though. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but there is something about the artwork, how they are portraying the ladies, that is a bit offputting. It isn’t as obvious with the male characters.
They have highlighted the female bodies more, turning them more into “big boobs + tiny waist + wide hips + round butt” caricatures.
Whether you find that sexually and/or aesthetically pleasing or not, there is, for me at least, something off-putting about doing that as a conscious design decision.
There was a very abrupt change between pages 503 and 505, not just in the shape of the female characters but also in coloring, shading, and facial details, the last effecting even the male characters. I don’t know if they swapped out artists or what. I was never clear on whether each of the writers did their own art completely, or how they arrange distribution of the workload.
… although 509, 510, 512, and 516 are in the old style. Looks like Sausage must have changed up his art style.
But yeah, something like … hmm.
Say, Distracterella on page 100 — http://superredundant.com/?comic=100-screw-that — is much more sexually appealing in form, if you’re looking for that sort of thing. Ridiculously fit, but I guess you would expect that a bit more, in a super hero or super villain.
Although, her boobs are a bit unrealistic … particularly considering that her costume is body paint with 3 starfish over her nipples and genitals. I dunno, maybe they’re really, really good implants. Either way, though, the rest of her figure is fairly realistic, and they were sticking to something close to that, until just recently.
There is no “older artwork” there are 3 different artists running the comic and they take turns putting their comic up, and usually if there is a story arc then that one artist will do the whole thing (unless he becomes busy in which case another of the 3 takes over). Mr.Sausage makes them girls look like Caricatures with Big Heads and exaggerated features, I prefer how he draws men to the way the others do but i prefer the way Mr.Dork draws the women
They’re usually a bit more in sync, though, in terms of art styles. The one has just been drifting a bit, in the last few weeks.
Why does the cross switch over to the Cross of Saint Peter?
‘Cause Catholics are evil apparently. Guess Martin Luther was right about one thing… :D
Actually, despite being known as beginning of the Protestant Reformation (along with a few others of the time period), Martin Luther wasn’t trying to ditch the Catholic church. He was trying to reform it. I’ve heard a few Lutherans put it as, “We didn’t break away. They kicked us out.”
Yes, I know I’m a buzzkill.
That was my first thought as well. I just assume she isn’t aware what the upside down cross means and believes it to be bad, hence so it changes to what she wouldn’t want it to be.
Also, the new-agey Satanists (the ones who actually believe in the stuff, rather than the ones who are just atheists who like trolling fundamentalist Christians) have a grab-bag of symbols and beliefs that were largely made up or assembled by people with no expertise and very little knowledge of the history of their mother religion. We aren’t exactly talking scholars here.
They’re a lot like Wiccans, in that respect. Modern Wiccans claim a heritage that goes back thousands of years, but … no guys, your religion was made up from scratch, back in the 60’s or there about, largely pulled from the slanderous accounts of Pagans that were spread around by early Christians. The victors usually get to write the history books.
“Cross of St. Peter”? That’s erudite knowledge. Most people think that an inverted cross is a Satanic or otherwise Anti-Christian icon. I applaud the erudition but shouldn’t that high culture also apply to modern culture?
Ouch, totally disappointed by upgraded BGG. She should have at least bat wings and little horns… :(
Also (grammar-nazi note): avatars (plural) don’t (not “doesn’t”).
And Avatars not wearing a bra is bad Beeeecaaaausseeee?
Frankly I wonder if she’s going to gain new abilities,… was this a Time out” or a “run Out” with a different recharge method?
The good news? Apparently she can now fly,….
Or at least she can hover in place and look dramatic. Perhaps her new power is some sort of celestial presence that doesn’t actually do anything useful, except perhaps intimidate the hell out of evil-doers.
I guess that’s still potentially useful, though. A lot of battles can be won through diplomacy and intimidation.
Let’s just hope she won’t visit a retirement home soon. She will cause a lot of cardiac arrests before doing something good for them.
I just want to know what other piece of clothing she doesn’t get to wear. *wink* *wink*
Well, women already outnumber men significantly, in retirement homes. She’ll just tilt the ratio a bit further.
I meant that she will scare more people with her angelic form as it means “I have come to take you away” than with her… “assets” and her “ass…ets”.
Also I wonder if she can use a sword of fire or at least a lance.
I’m not sure she’s the avenging angel type, who would run around with a fiery sword or lance.
Now that I think it, but everywhere they go, fires and chaos already ensues, so I think a fire sword would be redundant.
Heh heh heh heh heh. True enough.
I wonder how much $$$ is Boffman going to pay for new footage of GG, since all his archives were destroyed by Distracterella.
If all the heroes in Shitropolis are getting upgrades, I am so afraid to think about anything related to The Spank and The Banana.
Oh dear …
Both art and scrips by mr. Sausage have improved from good to great, and mr. Sausage’s strips get a lot more attention than his colleagues. I mean, 76 comments for this single strip at the moment! That’s a lot.
Obviously the bust size debate IS more interesting than mr. Dork’s “Gyrognome kicks LP’s nuts/Keith looks bored”-strips. Mr. Dork has his moments, but they are usually outside the house of our heroes. We want more adventures of The Banana and The Spank!
“I mean, 76 comments for this single strip at the moment! That’s a lot.”
That’s partially my fault. I’m pedantic and quarrelsome, so I stretch things out a lot further than they otherwise would.
I’ve been reading the comic for at least a year, but I haven’t generally gotten involved in the comments.
A) Slow news week?
C) all of the above
Nope, just random timing. I happened to glance down at a comment that I felt like responding to, and then I got notifications about the followup comments, to which I responded.
