Lets ask god’s representative about the conflicts in the narratives.
I must admit, this storyline seemed a lot more fun when I thought it was going to be a Religious Superhero rather than ‘Every actual religion’. Possibly because it doesn’t actually feel like ‘Every religion’. It mostly just feels like the Catholic Church. Seeing a multi-spectrum assault of ‘X is offensive to Y religion’ could have been fun.
So far it has been exclusively about the Catholic church, as far as I can tell, even if she was originally going to be sued by “Religion”.
Yeah, which doesn’t really make much sense.
Like, I’m still not getting WHY she’s being sued. She’s nothing but good PR for them.
Not familiar with Catholics, are you?
And Prince of Lies.
Maybe wait until we’re fully into the arc before you start passing judgement?
Maybe the Catholic church is the only religion that exists in this universe?
Maroon Jackdaw is a Wiccan.
If it goes against GG,…. what can they do about her or her powers?
His end game is likely to destroy her halo and make BGG his bride, which should backfire in an amusing way. She isn’t the type to be stuck at home suckling the Antichrist. “Better to wander on Earth then serve in Hell”, might be her response, before kneeing him in the ethereal bits.
Hope this happens without the halo Destruction, or the halo ends up on his head.
I’m betting on “Divine” intervention via halo swap to solve this.
I second ‘Halo ends up on Red Devil Lawyers head”
Omg, we’re twins! I was blown away by Blake Lively’s dress when I saw all the photos from the Met Gala, and I am so unbelievably in love with everything Georgina Chapman has done with Marchesa! The brand is so beautiful and chic, but still so cutting edge and fabulous.Darling, I’m adoring the blog!
My partner and I enjoyed reading this blog post, I was just wanting to know do you trade featured articles? I’m always in search of someone to make trades with and just thought I’d ask.
“I have sworn… eternal hostility to all forms of tyranny over the mind of Man.”.That’s a good enough opposition statement to my mind. Jeffersonian, even.Islam is Mind Tyranny, incarnate. From the first line…Any hope for an open future demands that it be declawed.(The talons are in the Koran.)
I love, love, love Sid Mashburn and everyone is there is always so incredibly nice. I go in and I buy the Caran d'Ache pens for everyone, they're a perfect little gift for anyone, especially if you know their favorite color.I don't know why, but once Ann Mashburn opened I never quite got excited about it. Going into Sid Mashburn I loved the men's clothes but I knew I wouldn't wear them, I think I'm afraid of what Ann Mashburn will do to my bank account.
We could’ve done with that insight early on.
, but I will here, instead. While AJ doesn’t necessarily need to comply with the absolute standard, “falsus in uno, falsus in omnibus, such rigor does at least give one a solid baseline threshold of credibility. Yet I believe even the CIA uses a target error threshold of around 20%, so that estimates don’t necessarily miss things of import, even though they might remain unproven.
I agree that the whole thing is far too europian/cristian fore it to be cald ‘all religion’. Even the clasical Gods are still believed in in some rurel places of Greece for instans (though new age has a hand in that too), bud would work on this juge and caling it ‘religion’ rathre then ortodox catholic church avoids legal matters.
Ahem. Satan is evil, that’s why.
I’m just hoping that the punchline is that the whole thing is a con-job. We’ll have to see what they do with this in the next few strips. If they play the “all religions” thing straight, instead of twisting it something along the lines of what I’m thinking … I dunno, man.
Okay, so you can’t have a representative on the stand under oath, because then it would be second-hand instead of first-hand knowledge. You can’t be asked to speculate on a different person’s thought process or actions since you really can’t know what that person is thinking.
In addition, there is the whole “man is not able to understand the mind of god”: “Despite all his efforts to search it out, man cannot discover its meaning. Even if a wise man claims he knows, he cannot really comprehend it.”
I call “OBJECTION” to the witness on the stand! :)
There’s all of the Ex Cathedra nonsense. When the pope is speaking Ex Cathedra, he’s absolutely infallible, according to Catholic dogma.
You could make the argument that when he’s speaking Ex Cathedra, he’s sort of like a direct conduit to Yahweh or something. I dunno.
All I know is that there better be a payoff of this devil guy creating a mock-up case without the support of any of the religions he’s claiming. The idea of all of the Protestant denominations queuing up behind the pope — who many of the American Christian denominations consider to be the anti-Christ — as the one who speaks for Yahweh is preposterous even within the context of a super-hero comic. They’re completely losing me on this one.
Yeah. Somehow I don’t see the Pope and Jack Chick teaming up to fight…a good, nice person who is doing good work selling their faith (Even if she’s not much of a fighter)
My thoughts exactly. The idea of all of the religions putting aside all of their differences is preposterous, in any kind of version of this world … hell, even just all of the Abrahamic religions doing so is ludicrous.
But the Prince of Lies lying about that is pretty funny to me.
That’s what I’m hoping for, yeah.
House prices have fallen to a point where a typical monthly housing payment is lower than what you’d pay to rent an equivalent property. That means two things, and both are REALLY significant…
unknown wrote an interesting post today onHere’s a quick excerptHowever, it was the times that I said no to reading one more story and no to playing a board game and even no to just sitting and watching a movie. Honestly? I felt like a bad mom in those moments. And honestly? I was not. …
I still want to see a representative of the Nordic, Wiccan and Scientologist religions. As I know (As a Roman Catholic) The Pope only represents the Catholic Church. Not every religion.
I wouldn’t count on the prince of lies telling the truth.
Well, if there’s enough money in the lawsuit, the Scientologists will be right on board.
I get it. So basically, GG’s lawyers have to say something along the lines of:
“Objection! If this man is truly speaking for God on the behalf of all religions, then all religions must be declaring that this man, and his particular religion, are the only true church!
Or they can find some Sadducee’s and ask them about the existence, and therefore copyright, of angelic beings. They will of course say “No such thing.” Therefore, if angels don’t exist, then religion nor God actually has a true copyright on them.
Or bring up how previous copyright laws let the copyright expire unless God himself renewed it every 20-ish years.
Traditional, pre-Christian Judaism did have messengers of Yahweh, though. . The Sadducees might accept those as angels, even if the Jewish iconography of these messengers probably doesn’t match up with GG’s look.
Or they might have been El’s messengers. I can’t remember which of the pre-monotheism, Canaanite gods it is in that part of the Pentateuch. They were all later rolled into Yahweh, so they blur a bit, in my mind.
Ah, it’s Advocatus Diaboli.
GG didn’t read the fine print in her upgrade ToC. She had a trial period in which to use her new powers and if, at the end of said period, she chose to continue to use them, she’d be subject to an investigation to prove/disprove her worthiness.
Well, at least the artist is up to date with the times, since that Pope looks like the current one, bronze skin and all (AKA Latino style) and wearing glasses.
I wonder how he could make time for this mock trial that looks more like a trial-and-error thingy.
Hopefully the Defense’s Irish humility doesn’t trip him uu here, but I doubt it, unless his grandmother was Vatican 2 skeptic, like mine was, and passed it on.
Hah jokes on you satan this latest pope is way cooler than the last few.
Err, what are you talking about? This guy is just a slightly softer-spoken, pseudo-liberal prop. He’s been set up as a spin-doctor, since the Catholic church realizes that its positions on divorce, abortion, contraception, gay rights, and women’s rights are slowly falling out of favor.
This isn’t entirely the pope’s fault, though. The liberal media is misquoting him in an attempt to make him look a whole lot better than he actually is. They’ve constructed some sort of narrative about him being some liberal breath of fresh air that is bringing the Catholic church into the 20th century. Once they get the church that far, we can work on getting the Catholic church a bit further, into the 21st century.
And I mean the actual liberal media, like the New York Times and HuffPo, not what Faux News is referring to when they refer to the “liberal media” … by which the folks at Faux News mean any organization that isn’t as ultra-conservative as they are.
I take it that you’re thinking of the “If a person is gay and seeks the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge him?” quote about gay people, or something similar? That was ripped completely out of context. Some gay-rights organizations even gave him some sort of award for being pro-gay, because they didn’t do their due diligence and explore what he actually said, beyond the out-of-context quote.
Also, the following day, some media-relations guy from the College of Cardinals clarified the impression that had been given by the major news outlets that wrote up the story. What the pope said wasn’t representing any change in Catholic doctrine. Of course he won’t judge any gay people who seek the lord and have good will. They just have to stop having gay sex. It would also be cool if they want to get married to someone of the opposite sex and have lots of Catholic children, after converting to Catholicism, I imagine.
For some reason, the media outlets didn’t run a sensational cover story on the clarification.
There was also the line that the media ran with, about him saying that atheists and non-Christians can get into heaven as well … as if the atheists and non-Christians would give a damn about what the pope thinks on the subject. What the pope was actually saying is that everyone can come and be saved by Jesus. The Catholic church will welcome them into the fold. Gee, thanks Pope.
The pope you seem to have fallen in love with is a cardboard cutout that the media has constructed and is propping up.
I had pasted in the URLs for two articles that explained what I’m talking about in detail, but the blog software turned them into links, then dropped the comment into moderation because of the links. I had hoped to avoid moderation by not actually making them links, but that failed.
*loads a shotgun* So you finally left your glass castle huh, you old son of a bitch…
That’s more than sensible! That’s a great post!
