Ha. Or a Super Training session or something. (And isn’t it Saturday when you’re excited to be out of school/work that Nature decides to send hurricanes?)
Actually, the people of Latveria enjoy very happy lives, since Doom created an almost utopic society and he protects his people.
I think that in the future (2099) he even became president of the United States and changed things for the better.
Doom? The only other movie that he was in, which was released in 2005, was Be Cool, which was actually pretty good … not as good as Get Shorty, but still good.
I’m more familiar with Shadowrun, if we’re talking about games for rolling handfuls of dice, and that game follows the usual high-is-good formula.
My orc shaman always got to roll fists-full of dice for any defensive test, at least. She was a hell of a tank/buffbot, since she didn’t invest much in the way of offensive capability, as a seductress shaman.
I think her only offensive spell was a mana bolt, then whatever her bound spirits were capable of. She fought with her blades far more often than with her one offensive spell, although she did a hell of a lot more total with the spell, since she only really used the blades to keep things off of her until her spirits could do some damage, or the idiot street samurai could … and Leo’s on the ground again; let me go heal him.
Adepts are basically like street samurai, only with magically imbued abilities, rather than technological. There are several similar effects that parallel the primary combat-cyberware/bioware modifications.
One benefit is that they’re much easier to heal, if they get the living hell kicked out of them. Our street samurai was a total gimp. The guy didn’t even have wired reflexes or synaptic boosters, which are an absolute must-have for a serious street samurai. Something like half of his cyberware and bioware wasn’t even applicable to his primary role of point-man in combat.
Then, of course, he thought he was Superman, jumping out into enemy fire, before I could even cast any defensive spells on him. With the almost nonexistent essence of someone modified all to hell and back, he was very magic resistant. I typically had to spend edge points if I wanted to heal him back to anything approaching functionality.
Adepts still have their full essence, just like any other magical sort, since they stay the hell away from cyberware and bioware. Plus, they can work together with magicians in some ways, if they have the appropriate skills. Basically, while street samurai secondary abilities are based on technology and combine well with computers, adepts’ secondary abilities revolve around astral sensing and interaction, interaction with spirits, and similar things.
If I was going for a combat-monster role, I might go adept, where as cyberware/bioware is the better route to go if you’re augmenting a character of another role, such as the face (point-of-contact man/woman) that I created for later in that same campaign. If you just want to make someone more viable in combat, without going all-out, spending some money on a few technological modifications is far cheaper, from a character-creation perspective.
More or less, if you’re going with a magically-awakened character, you go all-out.
My shaman leaned very heavily into magic, to the exclusion of most combat abilities, except for defensive ones. As a seductress-totemic shaman, she (3 of the 5 players in the group were playing cross-gender; with 2 of the 3 women playing male characters) was secondarily invested in charismatic skills, to the point of being the leader of her own quasi-cult. Every one of her 8 or 9 contacts was an ex-girlfriend with whom she was still romantically entangled. The girl had some serious commitment issues, along with her many other issues.
Basically, if a magician/shaman is going to be combat-oriented, he/she typically goes with almost all magical-combat skills. Adepts (who are almost all combat-heavy) go with mostly physical-combat skills, with secondary magical skills for loading up on adept abilities.
No problem. Let me know if you’re in North Carolina and you need a group.
Your character can hang out with the sketchy, perverted, dwarf rigger (played by one of the female players) who bugged Anika’s various crash pads (she doesn’t have a place of her own, just crashes with various ex-girlfriends who might be trying to rekindle the flame) with his nano-drones. You guys will probably have weeks worth of footage to comb through.
Say, you guys think this might lead to LP’s and Keith’s power-up? The last time they got whisked away somewhere together was during the Laser Stallion arc.
Power up? This is laser pony we are talking about, not laser stallion. If he gets a power up, it will probably be to shoot lasers from behind his ears as well
We already had him blow out his eardrums a while back, when the recurring scientist made him some laser-proof eye-covers of some sort.
I wouldn’t say that LP would get powered up as a result of his own efforts, and Keith would clearly never put forth any effort of any sort. They could get whisked off somewhere and have a power-up imposed upon them by outside forces, though.
Sometimes God wants to call you out on your shit.
Specially if it’s the god of thunder.
No thunder I see, and there is hail. Don’t think so.
You can’t see thunder. Thunder is a sound.
Thunder in webcomics is written oddly enough.
Ouch.
Eh, it’s Shitropolis. Must be Tuesday.
Ha. Or a Super Training session or something. (And isn’t it Saturday when you’re excited to be out of school/work that Nature decides to send hurricanes?)
Ah. Point.
That’s what you get for having a costume with no sleeves.
Actually, considering that that appears to be leather, it’s probably a pretty awful costume in any weather.
Er… rhyme not intended
… but accepted :-)
Waiting for the bus in the rain, in the rain
Wait-waiting for the bus in the rain
complain one time, and then it is hail–
Waiting for the bus in the hail.
Waited for the bus in the rain in the rain, didn’t like the weather so I had to complain-
Waiting for the bus in the rain was a pain, didn’t miss the hail ’til we got the hurricane-
ahh good old city boy western blues (set to the sound of rawhide bassline)
And there is a template of temperance.
Never let anyone what to do. Not even a Tornado should make you stand your hands out of the pockets.
So in Shitropolis that is the Bus Stop of DOOM! Better pay the toll if you know whats good for you.
Somewhere in Latveria, a certain green cloaked supervillain is laughing maniacally as he pushes buttons on his weather control machine.
Actually, the people of Latveria enjoy very happy lives, since Doom created an almost utopic society and he protects his people.
I think that in the future (2099) he even became president of the United States and changed things for the better.
Except for the rebels and the ambitious that is.
… well at least you got the Dr. Doom reference, if not the joke.
Damn. Comedy is tough.
I thought Doom was busy playing computer games on three monitor screens in a dim lit corner before going drunk in a teleporter…
And on that monitor screens was the awful 2005 movie with The Rock.
Doom? The only other movie that he was in, which was released in 2005, was Be Cool, which was actually pretty good … not as good as Get Shorty, but still good.
Doom. It was part of the Doom theme of these posts. Sigh. You know, it was building on the Doom theme. I’m doomed.
Next level. They run away from a firestorm “This is” “If you say it again I will use you as a firebreak”
Insane weather? Check.
Hands still in pockets? Check.
‘S all cool.
He should shut his trap before they start raining cats and dogs… literally.
Or you could get all the “bad rolls” (or RNG) of the day out in the morning…
I guess that LP got a dice with one dot on all its faces since the day he was born.
He even failed his listen check when Keith said that Mary Sue was not a good choice for him.
But in GURPS at least, rolling all 1’s is a GOOD thing (it’s a Critical Success). This definitely isn’t based on GURPS Supers, for sure.
Champions maybe.

Shadowrun? Huh. Played it only once. Did a Street Samurai, and died horribly. BTW, I’ve always wondered how good is the physical adept?

Cool. Thanks, and if you are in Hawaii, my table is open to you. Champions and Gurps though.
Heh, I’ll let you know. I tend to stay on the eastern half of the continent and Europe.
