How old is she supposed to be again?
Eh, it’s Shitropolis, some scientist was probably trying to build a better toaster and ended up dilating time so children grow up faster.
Actually, I can see people actually wanting kids to grow up quicker, just so long as they do not get caught in the “eternally ten” continuum.
Sounds like someone who dabbles in demonology or something along those lines. I don’t think that her mother got it on with a demon or is even particularly demonic, herself. That would be necessary for the girl to be a demon or demon-hybrid.
The authors are making quite a bit of a jump here. They seem to be conflating magic with the demonic, which you don’t normally see outside of Catholic/fundamentalist Christian circles. I’m not sure what has led to that retcon.
Nah, rage trigger tends to be demonic powers manifesting. Uncontrolled magic looks way different. There are tons of ways to get demonic aspected powers, and not only with sex. Demonic food addatives, harnessing foul energies, magic items, unregulated potions, etc…
I don’t think these guys usually think things through that far.
There are ways to grant someone demonic powers, yes. That doesn’t make that person a demon, though. Possessed, at the most.
Besides, we already established that the kid has some sort of inherent magical abilities, during the arc in which her parents were going around interviewing potential schools for children with exceptional powers. I imagine it’s just those powers manifesting. The hair is just … random, because … you know, magic = demons, in the minds of many.
Why do you always sell these guys short all the time?
Unless transformation magic, demonic blood transfusions, or a incubus is in the mix as well as other stuff. There are a lot of supers to parody that has an origin story like this you know.
And the schools are Nazi wizardry or hideously expensive. Also she might be a parody of Hellcat, Satana, or Vera Gemini etc… too early to tell though. So who do you think she’s a parody of?
It isn’t selling them short. It’s noticing the style of the comic. This is a fairly-light, humor comic, not a nuts-and-bolts, gamer-oriented comic. They don’t go in heavily for foreshadowing, either. They wing it a bit more. That’s just what their writing is like.
Take some of the long-range setups in 8-Bit Theater. Totally different writing style. I’ll put the links in comments after this message, since the message-board system throws anything with more than one link into moderation.
I don’t think that any of those things you mentioned probably happened to the kid. Having Josie cheat on her husband with a demon would be a bit dark for this comic. I don’t think she would mess around with her kid, injecting demonic blood, either.
How would transformation magic turn someone into a demon-hybrid, though? That doesn’t scan.
I don’t know enough of the more obscure comic characters to guess who the kid might be a parody of, assuming she’s a direct parody of any particular character. Josie isn’t a direct parody, is she? The actual members of the LoSRH, for example, aren’t direct parodies, as far as I know. You would be better able to guess at any direct links than I would.
Yeah, they don’t get to dark, but I wouldn’t put it past them to do or a last fling before the wedding, or a fertility clinic run by old scratch, type joke, or demonic blood transfusion (DC Constantine) thingie. If I had to bet, it would be Hellcat parody. Oh, and I know you don’t have Netflix, but yeah she’s on Jessica Jones BTW.
Eh, I guess it’s possible that there will be a last-fling sort of setup, but the inherited magical powers thing already comes close enough to explaining it. I don’t think that they would go with that sort of more convoluted explanation, when the surface one suffices.
I guess it’s possible that this could be tied into the GG-power-up arc, but Sausage does one-shot throwaways sometimes, too. His last one was a one-shot, so this one probably is, too. I’ve seen that pattern before, having a half dozen or so one-shots between major arcs of his.
More than anything else, I’ve seen the pattern of the activity in this comment section and what happens in the comic. From the beginning of the court scene, we had a handful of people going on and on about throwing the halo on the judge to win the case. Meanwhile, you, I, and a few others were cooking up all sorts of far cooler plot twists and convoluted setups.
Oh, and if you haven’t read 8-Bit Theater, I highly recommend it. It’s a loooooong, epic story arc that actually completed the run, to the originally-conceived destination.
It’s sort of like Babylon 5, in that respect. Babylon 5 was conceived as a 5-season arc, and it ran for the 5 seasons and ended there. It wasn’t cut off in the middle of nowhere, as many shows are, and they didn’t try to extend past the point of the original story-line, as many long-running shows do.
Lots of shows do that. They have the first season or two fairly well paced, but then one of two things happen. Either the show tanks early, and we’re left with nothing resolved … or the show is planned as a fairly short arc, and it suddenly becomes popular. Then, the network producers decide that they need to stretch out this cash cow, and the show treads water for a season or two. The Dead Zone was like that. The first two seasons were pretty good, but then it just started treading water and started sucking.
No prob. Let me know how you like it. It’s one of those witty and sadistic comics, with occasional moments of profundity. I’ve probably read through the 1225 pages (plus guest and bonus pages) at least 5 or 6 times.
I suggest bookmarking the last page you’re on, before closing it for the night, since combing through that large of an archive can be a bit difficult.
The same thing happens in soap operas. A kid goes away to camp or to visit a grandmother, for a month or two, and she comes back 4 or 5 years older. I think the typical child takes about 3 years to go from birth to 21.
Can I just mention something? That neither of you have touched on, by the by: Her mother SPECIALIZES in ILLUSION MAGIC. All of the things her mother makes, are harmless illusions. This kid obviously got the knack of illusion and alteration magic from her mom. Demon bats and fire? Both illusions, thought of as scary by a little kid, which, is honestly terrifying to most people if they actually manifest. Why do you think daddy isn’t freaking out? He knows full well it’s just a light and color show.
I would say she has the aura of a SSJ but given it’s purple and she’s getting mad over being denied food i say she has the aura of a god of destruction instead!
Fun fact: 19.4% of the weekly calamities befalling Shitropolis are caused by empowered children throwing tantrums!
Seems like it should be higher… significantly higher once you include all the man children ;)
And don’t forget crappy parenting.
The kid

is growing up quick, and is indeed going to be trouble.
How old is she supposed to be again?

The girl’s a demon or demon hybrid, of course she’ll grow up faster. ^_^
Yup, I think she’s a demonic summoner with a combat aura. Half demon seems spot on.
Err, where is this demon stuff coming from? She’s just inherited her mother’s magical powers, somehow.
Summoning imps.
Being able to summon demons doesn’t make her a demon in any way, though.
How about the flame aura, hellish darkness, and horny hair?

Ah, neat.

Who ended up being right?

It takes about 30 or 40 pages to really spin up to speed, though.
Ah, point. Well, I’ll check out 8 bit, thanks.

She did, in an earlier comic, mention that she used dark magic specifically.
The same thing happens in soap operas. A kid goes away to camp or to visit a grandmother, for a month or two, and she comes back 4 or 5 years older. I think the typical child takes about 3 years to go from birth to 21.
Or goes off dimenstion for a while, then comes back D20 years older and fully trained.
Heh, oops dimension.
Like some sort of Magik? :D
Yup.
Losing a child in another dimension would be some kind of Colossus mistake.

I’d wadger two or three-ish.
Also, look up ‘comic-time’.
*wager
How the hell did I manage to hit the [D] key?
I would say she has the aura of a SSJ but given it’s purple and she’s getting mad over being denied food i say she has the aura of a god of destruction instead!
Considering the “Pudding” incident, that is spot on.
The good point with the kid: Dragon Quest monsters!
The bad point with the kid: Akira toryama processing.
Alright, forget… <__>
Nah! It only took her three panels to display her powers instead of taking 3+ weeks to power up…
Somewhere, in the distance, there’s two people, speaking in paragraphs, talking about how strong the fighting aura is and no one will ever defeat her.
They each pause to gasp for so long, the gasps are longer than the conversation…
That’s 3 episodes right there.
Camera: 35mm, Slow push
Animation: Center frame – trembling eye…
Fear the authority of his non-powered dad!
Oh yeah, he has the only power that counts in real life: economic power.
Dad’s a badass.
No! Dont give in! That will just reinforce the bad behavior, and she’ll do it more
Says the guy with no kids
That can summon imp like critters.
Little Known Fact: the plot of The Omen could’ve been completely avoided if Mr. and Mrs. Thorn had been better parents.
But they wern’t in accordence to prophecy.
It’s just a phase, that will end when she realizes she can just summon the ice cream instead.
it just goes to show that when learning witchcraft you should always use protection.
…Like a full pentagram enclosed in a titanium cage…
Among other unusual modes of mortality, Shitropolis has the highest rate of “sent to cornfield” deaths in the nation.
I know that “twee scoops”is likely supposed to be three but twee is the Dutch word for two so
I love how despite the kid having magic the dad is still not giving her any more ice cream than if she were just begging.
