That pretty much sums up the status quo of a certain webslinger.
The editors and writers of a certain webslingers are probably hang over as well, or at least unable and unwilling to make any permanent advances in the plot. Funny thing is that the original success of Spidey was based on not having a template set in stone: the character grew up, graduated, his girlfriend suddenly died and so on. But at some point something happened, and any progress at all became temporary.
As a huge fan of spider-man, it’s been downright depressing. Spider-man is still my favorite character, but I just can’t read the book anymore after all the poor story choices they’ve made. I also have a deep seated hatred for the current Amazing Spider-Man writer, Dan Slott. He’s utterly butcher every character and the whole comic’s dynamic.
But there’s also a defined end- it may sound odd but reading about the same character your entire life builds a real sense of connection. Plus, status quos change! Gwen Stacy died to teach us that lesson.
But it takes so long for them to get to the next part of the story, in a manga/anime like Dragonball Z, that it starts to feel like status quo. Besides, the constant theme of running into the next villain who has 10 times the power level of the last villain could be considered part of a holding pattern.
I don’t read it, myself. I’ve just caught a few episodes of the anime, when other people were watching it while I was around. The ones I watched had pretty much no plot progression in the 23 or 24 minutes of the show, not counting commercials.
Dragon ball Super (DBS) started last year, so far there is no right now, it’s been hit and miss at times (episode 5 is infamous for very very poor animation) I say overall it’s far better then GT and even Z. It does need better fights but this is by far one of their better ones.
That’s still the formula franchise which I don’t mind though the pace has quickened, they at least don’t mention power level numbers which got old, even for me.
It’s very hard to come across sub or one that’s accurate as there is no official sub yet, the series is still Japan first. The only thing close to my knowledge is going on kanzenshuu website and read a summary (they have staff who are proven translators)
It’s just a sit back and watch are these episodes, I never take seriously.
Their is an assumption from certain fans that the franchise should be aimed at adults and be more serious like Z. It shouldn’t be, and given the timeslot for the series is 9am Japan on Saturdays should say everything about who it’s main audience is.
That would be huge, if they paced the fights a little better, so that a fight was a part of an episode, rather than an episode being part of an hours-long fight. That was one of the most ridiculous things about the series.
I mean, if we’re having a long, protracted battle involving hundreds of people, taking hours in the show’s timeline, that’s one thing. If you’re spending 3 or 4 episodes of screen time detailing important portions of the fight that are playing out with the various main characters, that can be quite interesting. Having four people fighting against one person, in a battle that should take 2 or 3 minutes tops, with the four idiots standing around for 5 minutes, gasping as the villain transforms into a more powerful form … over and over again, becoming yet more powerful with each 15 minute-long transformation … that’s just mind-numbing.
Don’t get me wrong. I’ve seen a lot of good anime. It’s just the ongoing, non-episodic ones that are often a bit terrible.
In part, I blame the format. While they don’t have the same excuse as soap operas, which have to pump out freaking five hour-long shows each week …
You can forgive soap operas for a lot of the horrible writing, because of the time crunch, but I have to think there’s something in the basic format of the shows, too.
Branch out into anime and watch Samurai Flamenco on netflix
Ordinary guy, granted a supermodel, decides to dress up like a superhero in a world that only sees costumed heroes in civilians who dress up to stand up for something. aka our world. and fight what he sees as crimes. Gets beat up a lot. Improves. Plot improves. The world gets a little screwy
The villain (alcohol) took over his body and drove his girlfriend to dump him, his suit isn’t really carnivorous, he just thinks it’s really constricting when he gets heated and drunk, his nanna isn’t sick all the time, she’s just sick of his drinking problem, his arch enemy only knows his secret identity cos he drunkenly blurted it out one night (probably the same night he got arrested hence the villain thing) and the visions of the end of the universe are just something everyone gets when they’re severely hung over.
I somehow misread “suit” as “cat”. This was deeply confusing, since I couldn’t figure out why he’d be surprised that his cat was a carnivorous organism.
Unless he refers to his cat ex-gf, that took over his body, thus making his current gf break up with him, plus his nana watched everything, and that’s why she’s sick of him.
*Listening to the furious beats of keyboards caused by fans writing racy fan-fics*
Hmm… feed the villain to the suit. Feed the archnemisis to the suit. Frame the suit and turn in the suit for the reward? Spend the reward money on the girlfriend.
is it just me or is it kind of funny the marvel public is quicker to turn on a personable public superhero than the gotham police is to turn on an intimidation based vigilante that were it not for the vast population of crazy people they would be hunting?
In the defense of the public, many sociopaths can make themselves more like-able than lots of nicer people, because the sociopaths have more experience manipulating people. A particular presidential candidate comes to mind.

I hate him to but Spiderverss was good
I think Randy Milholland’s ‘Super Stupor’ addressed a sizable chunk of that problem.
This is why I read manga instead of comic books. None of this eternal status quo crap.
But there’s also a defined end- it may sound odd but reading about the same character your entire life builds a real sense of connection. Plus, status quos change! Gwen Stacy died to teach us that lesson.
That’s why I read franco-belgian comics, you get both the stories with the definite end and the ones that just keep on going.
Dragonball will never end
I’m french and d I understand you
Eats before neets except after feets

You need to read better manga, like JJBA

Yeah, it’s no big deal at this point because *everybody’s* power is over 9000…
Are they not up around 100,000 by now? They aren’t still making new episodes at this point, are they?
Yeah Dragon Ball Super is still running. Didn’t see it. Probably 90,000 because they like to increase by tenfold.
Jeeze, how many freaking years …
I don’t imagine that the writing has improved any, huh?

When funimation get hold to sort out the dub then I think the writing can be better judged.
Ehh, but it’s mostly just the two of them throwing energy balls at one another and shrugging them off. Nothing really interesting happening.
We don’t have subbed versions yet?

DBZ is famous for being terrible.
It was just the first on the sceen, and we were sick of the Jetsons.
Try, like, Alive:the fian evolution, or anything labled seinen (aimed at 20-30 year olds)
Or if you love mavle/DC, the book Worm.

He’s a comic book equivalent of Spiderman, so smart money says his entire rant is 100% true.
So, the villain who took over his body was alcohol?
This
The villain (alcohol) took over his body and drove his girlfriend to dump him, his suit isn’t really carnivorous, he just thinks it’s really constricting when he gets heated and drunk, his nanna isn’t sick all the time, she’s just sick of his drinking problem, his arch enemy only knows his secret identity cos he drunkenly blurted it out one night (probably the same night he got arrested hence the villain thing) and the visions of the end of the universe are just something everyone gets when they’re severely hung over.
Well at least he didn’t mentioned that awful situation with his clones or making a deal with the devil…
Or that one time he was Captain Universe.
Or that he was a hydra agent all along…which wouldn’t surprise me if they actually did that!
Well, that’s better than that thing saying he was some kind of totem and the spider didn’t bit him by accident…
Was’nt he a vampire somwhere along that line?
Did you know? Spiders can get drunk from drinking caffeine?
Visions of the end of the universe whats that a reference to

He’s a reference to Spiderman, he could be hungover and all those things at once!
Hmm… feed the villain to the suit. Feed the archnemisis to the suit. Frame the suit and turn in the suit for the reward? Spend the reward money on the girlfriend.

And very little supervillain hate.
In the defense of the public, many sociopaths can make themselves more like-able than lots of nicer people, because the sociopaths have more experience manipulating people. A particular presidential candidate comes to mind.
In Gotham, the media ask the question: “Batman: Myth or Real?” while in New York, the Bugle asks: “Spider-Man: Menace or Super-Menace?”
Amazing how much public opinion can be swayed by the MSM.
I have spent a couple afternoons reading all of it.
LOVE it.
Ever thought of making a Kickstarter for a printed book ???
I’ll back it right away.
