Ah, but the scene is set in the united states, where I do believe that having tea and crumpets whilst being British is still on the books as a capital offence.
Looks like “Xander” is blindly going where he has not gone before.
And the other guy (Rick?) just found out that Chess is just another path, one we all must take. Sadly, he shall not pass this test.
This strip made me think of another strip in manga style, where two guys are “playing” Go (the game with black and white pieces) making “witty” remarks while making moves in panels with action lines in the background.
They end up saying “Well, this would be more fun if any of us knew how to play this…”
I checked the scene in the movie, and they are playing chess correctly(to my surprise). By not showing the whole board almost all classical mistakes are avoided and the movement of the pieces are correct. That having said, Magneto should have forfeit already, sacralising the night for the past pawn only to leave a knotter passed pawn protected by a 3e pawn is pointless. This is just about the least objectionable comment on a chess game in movies I’ve ever made.
Oh this was brilliant!
Yeah, wasn’t expecting that. So, I guess they’re were just trying to look smart in front of the other one.
He sunk your battleship.
Nuh-uh, it was in the no sinking square. So the bad guy must sing the bad guy song.
Not MacAvoy? Ah.
It’s the Two Sirs!
Haha, what a silly and simple but nonetheless effective gag!
As a brit I find this depiction and sterotype that we frown, be vague, monologue and play chess highly offensive.
We actually frown, be vague, monologue, play chess AND eat crumpets! (and maybe a scone)
The fact there is no crumpets to eat proves that this comic has an
anti-crumpet agenda!!!

But they are not having tea! Outrageous!
The tea is at … in the harbour.

I like how not-Eric’s shirt is basically a light grey TNG uniform shirt. Subtle.
And Patrick Stewart seems to be wearing Magneto’s colors
Wouldn’t that school just be like a regular one in this world?
Ah, yes. Xander’s school for ‘gifted’ students.
