Well, might come in handy if you get bored, as you can legitimately talk to the mirror without coming off as the crazy dude who talks to himself.
But your mirror-self on the other side would only be saying the same thing you’re saying…still boring.
:) In the way most stories make parallel universes work, the close once would have such small diverseness that they’ll won’t be noticeable at all.
Or the scientist is trolling and it is a mirror.
Or crazy and in denial that it is just a mirror…
He has to hide it from the grants commission.
Meanwhile, in the Mirror Universe …
tsitneicS: “This is a nightmare! Everytime someone from the other universe comes near the Mirror, we’re compelled to imitate their every action! We have no free will anymore!”
tnatsissA: “How horrible! How will we ever free ourselves!?”
tsitneicS: “We have only one solution! We must use MIND CONTROL and force the people in the other universe to smash the Mirror!”
So everyone who comes near the mirror feels the MIND CONTROL, so they just KNOW this means the people on the other side want to invade, so they get ready to destroy the Mirror Universe …
Jeez, everybody knows that mr. scientist.
Ok, now try and invent an interdimensional mirror that looks further than realities so similiar to ours that they may as well be mirrors.
Regarding this topic there is a series of games in Kongregate.com called “The Splitting”, about a guy who can cross through mirrors. If you love sprite games, give it a chance (it’s free!)
So if they were to have a conversation with their parallel selves would they be able to stop them from being their exact mirror, or would they just spend the whole time simultaneously saying, “No, you go first” over and over again?
Or stop saying what I’m saying.
Well, there are some differences. The parallel guy is standing much closer to the “Mirror” than our guy. Imagine all the other possible differences! Why, this dust particle could be two inches the right from where it is here! SCIENCE!
Yeah, I was wondering if someone had noticed that. Good work, WLP!
Now let’s chant all together: “we, real-physics-extremists demand redrawing of the first panel!” XD
I found a parallel dimension where they have Taco Squares instead of Pizza Rolls. Terrifying shit!
Overthinking, maybe, but… how would you prove it’s an alternate dimension and not just a mirror?
By placing a vampire in front of it?
But what if the vampire doesn’t have an alternate universe counterpart?
Place an onion in it’s head.
By trying to cross into it? If it breaks, then it is a mirror, if you pass through then it’s a real portal.
Unless you keep bumping into your mirror self.
:D Good one indeed!
Guess it would be evidence too but maybe a better experiment is to try to just shake hands with your mirror self. Or do lewd things in the kinkiest kind of homo-narcissistic style — that could make “boring” parallel universes more amenable for some, I guess.
If you had two of these devices, and they were arranged so they faced each other, would it be possible to observe an infinite number of alternate universes?
Oh, yeah. There used to be one such arrangement in my grandmother’s home’s portal when I was a kid and it was quite flippant. Admittedly I was a still a kid, so I enjoyed a lot those kind of ever shrinking other selves, not like now that I’m so mature that that when I see a miracle I just shrug and move on to something more interesting like pizza rolls or online cartoons. Was my granny a witch or mad scientist in disguise? *Shrug*
Well, if they want to examine the variations in parallel universes, all they have to do is have someone study the portal for forty-eight hours without sleep. By the end of the forty-eight hours, they will see all sorts of differences between the two realities. They might even establish communications.
I actually conducted this experiment in college as part of a research project – I got $200 for my part and I discovered that one could perceive elephants moving under wallpaper on walls that didn’t have wallpaper.
I don’t see a goatee on the mirror assistant….
As Dr. McCoy opined, that would just give the mirror inhabitants more character to their appearance.
