Can you blame him? After all it is covered by his insurance so it’s not like he has to be careful unless he wants to keep his no claims bonus and that went out of the window a long time ago.
I’d say it’s more of a ‘Call Back’, the running gag was LP shooting down blimps and having it covered, this is more of a call back to that gag and maybe a bit of ‘Reality Ensues’ as we learn what happens when you keep blowing up those blimps, the poor guy piloting them ends up canned and undergoing a nervous breakdown.
They probably fired him because the company became a financial disaster. It is hard to do business, when your key property keeps being destroyed. They might shift the blame to the pilot just to have a suitable scapegoat. On the other hand the guy might just been laid off as everyone else and no just tells he got fired (if there is a difference of meaning between those two verbs).
There’s a different connotation between the terms. Laid off implies that the dismissal isn’t for something they find you at fault for, and that they might be willing to rehire you if circumstances at the company change. Fired suggests that there’s no reason to apply for a new position there, they don’t want you back.
And I’m thinking he’d use the identity “Baron Von Zepplin” with lots of WWI-era Imperial German iconography.
Reasons? First, Germans invented the airship, which is frequently mistaken for a blimp (which will get lots of nitpickers pointing out the difference which will enrage Our Villain)
And Second, Germans eat horsemeat (traditionally in the form of sauerbrauten). A nice implied threat. (Of course Keith pointing out the obvious double entendres in “eating sauerbrauten” will get Our Villain all enraged again).
But of course, the cherry atop the Shitropolis Sundae would be if Laser Pony isn’t even aware he was being attacked. Which should drive “Baron Von Zepplin” into Stroke Country.
Manfred von Richotffen flew airplanes, not airships.
And no American can think of a villainous flying German without thinking of him as “Baron”. (Again, that’s Richtoffen’s fault – the man was scary good at his job.)
So this villain would be “Baron Von Zepplin”. So there. Nyah. :p
Zeppelin was more than a Freiherr (Baron) – he was Graf (Count). Btw. the title Count is not paired with a “von” in German. So his name was Graf Zeppelin.
hmm.. none of these comment’s have mentioned the fact that
Laser Pony is a prison guard and not a mental hospital orderly,
meaning that old “lead balloon’s” breakdown was probably of a more
proactive nature than usual.

Of course it is to be applauded when anyone tries to organise a event such as this, but I think that the original Anonymous raised a fair point. Not many Moroccans will see 80 dirhams for a 75 minute performance as a good price, never mind the fact that it is more than a day's wage for many.- Michael N.PS the 'Name/URL' button doesn't seem to be working
Oh, Laser Pony, what did you DO?
Only hitting stuff the LOSRH is Insured agaisnt!

I believe this is what TV Tropes calls a “Brick Joke”
Nah, it’s more of a running gag. Brick jokes only happen once or twice.

They don’t want a blimp pilot for flying around all the tourists who really aren’t dumb enough to board a blimp in _this_ city.
Laser Pony has found his arch-nemesis.
So, what about the Laser Stalions? Is he (or the local equivalent) their arch-nemesis too?
The Blimp-Meister?
This is now headcanon.
Well, there are lamer super-villain origins.

This is Archam, not Belle Reve:

i stand corrected although in http://superredundant.com/?comic=655-getting-your-rep and this one and the first LP is referred to as guard,
also even extreme paranoia doesn’t get you locked up with criminals.
