“Yeah, we joined [a cult].”
“You don’t have any money now, do you?”
—
“…So, now I’m [indoctrinated into the most popular cult].”
“You gave them all your money, didn’t you?”
—
“…Well, [her]? She go into [a cult] and-”
“Nope!! She is not staying at my place!!”
—
“…I couldn’t live that way anymore so, I went to [rehab that recommends you take part in a cult].”
“That’s how you moved on from alco- HOLY SHIT!!! I FOUND ONE…!!!”
I beg to differ, I can think of at least one person who would announce that it was “Good News” if someone joined a cult… Also good news if he’s about to send you on a deadly mission. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=YRCzEqkCoiM
Not really – the word “cult” doesn’t mean any small or strange religion.
The word cult means the specific worshipers of a single god in a polytheistic religion. So Aphrodite, Zeus, and Prometheus all had their own cults aka worshipers who revered them in particular despite believing in all the Greek gods. As such, you can’t really have a cult in a monotheistic religion.
I suppose one might argue that “cult” now has a secondary meaning, but it only acquired that meaning after Christianity became mainstream so the secondary meaning also doesn’t work.
The word really does not mean what it meant before the Reformation, like “Indulgence”. Technically, a Catholic or Orthodox Christian who has a favorite Saint or Miraculous event they particularly revere can be said to be a part of “the Cult” of that person or event, but they have moved away from that terminology since the Council of Trent.
For example, my mother is a Catholic who could be said to be a part of “The Cult of Fatima”, which has been a big thing this summer on its Centennial. My grandfather was in the French trenches at the time, and he heard of it when he got out, and beloved it was God’s response to “The Great War”. The cult became a vital part of how he coped with his PTSD, or shell shock, as he called it.
Funnily enough there was a hoax north korea propganda video (made by a new Zealander) and was quite convincing given it was saying some truth about ‘western capitilisim’ with the video showing a man being celebrated in the streets to which the narrator says that this man didn’t save a life, helped the poor etc but was congratulated for being the ‘first’ to buy a apple product above all other values.

At least this particular cult believes in total honesty. They don’t even lie to themselves!
He is laying down the plan to a captured hero. He is propably a higher up who is not nearly as fanatic/blind as the lower ranks.
I’m not sure saying “We’re a cult, therefore we’re obviously not good” actually counts as laying down the plan.
That’s just a cult classic.
Christianity started off as a cult, which wasn’t too bad until politics and human nature got involved
How dare you say that? Burn and hang the heathens so no one can say we’re not good!

I got nothing, henchman 36 makes a good point, unless the cult were movie critcs given they often reuse that word ‘cult classic’ a lot for films.
If this cult were worth its salt, that self-awareness should have been eliminated from this guy long ago.
Nah it’s the cult of trying to break the 4th wall.
Cult? Is this an Apple store?

No, it’s a town square.
Does this mean that The Cult is an evil band?
