Peter Pan also requires pixie dust. The dust powers the flight and happy thoughts are how you steer. At least that’s what I always thought as a kid. Either that or “pixie dust” is a euphemism for LSD and those kids were all on a really wicked trip for most of the movie; now that I think of it, that could explain a few things…
Yes it could…it could actually explain a lot of things…does this mean Peter Pan was a drug dealing kidnapper? After all he does promise to take them to ‘neverland’ where all their dreams can come true and they get there with the pixie dust and ‘thinking happy thoughts’…I’d say childhood successfully ruined but that’s not even top ten on my list of ‘childhood ruination’ theories.
I never understood how that would work… not the “fly because he believes he can/doesn’t know he can’t” bit, the “people can convince them that they can’t fly” one.
I mean yeah. Obviously, it runs on bullshit but you know what else is obvious? That they’re currently flying. So clearly the explanation for why they can’t has to be flawed. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be able to do it.
A spider met a centipede while hurrying down the street,
“How do you move at such a speed, with all so many feet?”
“I do not have to contemplate to keep them all in line,
But if I start to concentrate they’re tangled all the time!”
I believe I can fly
I believe i can touch the sky
I think about it every night and day ♪
I spread my wings and fly away…
I believe I can soar.
I see me running through that open door
I believe I can fly
I believe I can fly
Good god, I love you people.
Hitchhiker’s Philosophy
Not quite, that philosophy requires you to MISS the ground.
He apparently hit it.
How does it suspend the user’s disbelief? By generating an SEP field.
I believe you can fall.
Wow, that went a bit dark.
He was more than a bird, he was more than a plane. It was not easy being him.
He was more than a bird. He was more than a plane. He IS little more than an ink blot.
So essentially, he was pulling a Peter Pan act.
Not really. Peter Pan just thought happy thoughts. More of a Dumbo act.

Doubtful. LSD wasn’t invented until nearly half a century after Peter Pan was written.

He fell because he suffered from the Centipede’s Dilemma. If you’re not familiar with the concept, you can look it up.
But hey, I can fly too…But I really suck at landing.

Never heard of the Centipede’s dilemma till now and have to say I find it’s concept very relateable since reading it!

Dumped
I don’t believe this…….
Simple, think of the most wondrous things.
It’s the same as having wings.
Brings to mind the words of Dr. Rambeau the head of research in Heinlein’s short story “Waldo”, where he says “Magic is loose in the world!”. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waldo_(short_story)
